Meet Helena Geiger
I’m an Indigenous Australian born in Sydney of Gumbaynggir heritage from Northern NSW. As a contemporary visual artist, I specialise in textiles. Using techniques such as Batik, Shibori and various dip dyeing and hand painting processes I create textures, patterns & colours on fabrics inspired by our natural environment.
My work in the furnishing textile trade and the sublimation fabric printing industry for the last 20 years has given me insights to complement my artistic side. It’s been an inspirational journey to create a collection that brings emphasis on natural, harmonious, textural prints in the space of commercial and residential decorating. Designs that originate from hand drawn Batik evoking images of our natural environment and our connection to our culture and country. More and more emphasis on hand designed & dyed textiles combined with free flowing open spaces and contemporary interiors resonates with my organic design style.
Printed Textile Designs to inspire
Starting with a project brief or intuition, I create designs as free-flow panels or repeat patterns. These unique textile designs are printed for commercial use as upholstery, furnishings, apparel and artwork fabrics.
Working with Sydney based print studios with many new high-quality printing processes even for low volumes, I can source fabric printing on many natural base cloths including silks, linens and cottons, as well as high performance fabrics for blinds, acoustic panels, upholstery or even textured wallpaper.
Timeframes are flexible, depending on the scale of any project. While an original hand-drawn Batik can often take weeks to complete (depending on the number of colours and detail required), I can submit sample swatches of my printed designs within 10 days.
